Job description

Overview

LMI is seeking a Lead Full Stack Developer to lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of a secure, web-based mission data and digital asset management application supporting a SOCOM Mission Partner. The application enables authorized users to ingest, organize, discover, preview, share, and reuse mission-relevant files, datasets, software, models, and technical knowledge. It combines a modern user experience with scalable backend services, governed data access, project-based collaboration, and integration with a secure cloud-hosted delivery environment.

This is a hands‑on engineering lead position. The selected candidate will contribute production code, guide technical design, perform code reviews, mentor developers, and coordinate directly with product, platform, security, and mission stakeholders. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success building full‑stack applications that handle large files and complex data, enforce user permissions, and deliver dependable performance in secure government environments.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial‑grade platforms and mission‑ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission‑ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors, helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

This position is remote within the United States and requires an active Secret security clearance. Periodic travel to mission partner locations, including the Fort Bragg area, may be required for technical planning, user engagements, and integration activities. Classified work must be performed in approved facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead hands‑on development of a secure, user‑facing application for the ingestion, management, discovery, sharing, and reuse of large mission datasets and digital assets.
  • Design, build, review, test, and maintain full‑stack features across responsive web interfaces, backend services, application programming interfaces (APIs), data stores, and cloud integrations.
  • Guide implementation of project‑based organization, asset metadata, user profiles, file and dataset versioning, activity history, and collaboration capabilities such as comments, saved items, and feedback.
  • Engineer scalable file upload, ingestion, transfer, processing, and download workflows that reliably accommodate large volumes of images, video, documents, technical files, and structured or unstructured data.
  • Implement and optimize search, filtering, content previews, indexing, and data discovery workflows that help users identify relevant assets without unnecessary downloads.
  • Develop secure API contracts and integrations with object storage, metadata catalogs, search services, identity providers, mission applications, and other approved enterprise systems.
  • Apply authentication, authorization, role‑or‑attribute‑based access controls, audit logging, data handling rules, and secure file access throughout the application.
  • Coordinate with data engineering, platform, and cybersecurity teams to preserve data provenance, metadata, version history, security markings, and authorized handling of sensitive content.
  • Improve application performance, reliability, scalability, and observability; diagnose issues involving databases, backend services, object storage, web interfaces, networks, and deployment environments.
  • Work with product managers and UI/UX designers to translate user requirements into technical designs, refined backlog items, acceptance criteria, and production‑quality releases.
  • Lead technical planning, software architecture decisions, code reviews, automated testing, integration testing, defect resolution, and release readiness for assigned development work.
  • Implement secure development practices and integrate application delivery with approved source control, continuous integration and continuous delivery, containerization, and DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Mentor and guide developers, establish practical coding standards, manage technical dependencies, and maintain maintainable, well‑documented application components.
  • Engage operational users and government stakeholders during demonstrations, feedback sessions, and testing; convert findings into improvements to application functionality and usability.
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, API specifications, data models, development guidance, deployment documentation, and technical decisions that support sustainment and future integration.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Active Secret security clearance, with the ability to maintain the clearance throughout employment.
  • Minimum of seven years of professional software development experience, including substantial hands‑on work across both front‑end and back‑end application development.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead, senior developer, or principal contributor responsible for technical design, code reviews, mentoring, and delivery of production software.
  • Proficiency with a modern JavaScript or TypeScript front‑end framework such as React, Angular, or Vue, including component design, state management, API integration, and responsive application interfaces.
  • Strong back‑end development experience using Python, Node.js, Java, C#, or a comparable server‑side language and framework, including design and implementation of production REST APIs and service integrations.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and working with relational or nonrelational databases, data models, query optimization, and application data‑access patterns.
  • Experience building applications that ingest, store, retrieve, transfer, or process files and datasets, including performance considerations for large objects, background processing, and error recovery.
  • Hands‑on experience building, deploying, or supporting web applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including integration with storage, compute, identity, logging, or networking services.
  • Experience implementing application authentication, authorization, secure API design, input validation, secrets handling, and auditability in environments with sensitive or access‑controlled data.
  • Working experience with Git‑based source control, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery, containers, and Agile software delivery practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues across front‑end code, backend services, data stores, cloud services, and application interfaces.
  • Strong technical communication, engineering judgment, documentation, and collaboration skills, including the ability to lead work across product, platform, cybersecurity, and customer teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience developing or sustaining applications for SOCOM, Special Operations Forces, or another Department of War mission partner.
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud, Kubernetes or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, infrastructure as code, and delivery in DoD‑authorized environments.
  • Experience building data repositories, asset libraries, content management platforms, collaborative knowledge systems, or large‑scale data ingestion and search applications.
  • Experience with Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), managed databases, search or indexing technologies, event‑driven processing, messaging, and asynchronous job orchestration.
  • Experience developing video and image previews, content metadata pipelines, geospatial or technical‑file viewers, or natural‑language search capabilities.
  • Familiarity with DoD Information Network (DODIN) requirements, Risk Management Framework processes, secure application delivery, and authorization constraints at DoD Impact Level 4 or higher.
  • Experience designing interoperable solutions using open APIs, reusable components, documented data contracts, and modular software architectures.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related technical discipline.
