Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an Optical Communications Engineer for the Communications and Signal Analysis Department (CSAD) in Chantilly, VA. You will analyze, develop, test, and integrate advanced free-space optical satellite communication systems, interfacing with DoD and intelligence customers while leading technical studies and collaborating with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics/Optics, or related discipline.
• Expertise in free-space optical satellite communications links, networks and system development and/or acquisition.
• 6+ years of optical communications experience in link analysis, modeling & simulation and lab experience with fiber-optic systems or laser-based instrumentation.
• Willing to travel domestically ~10% of the time.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• Knowledge of optical modulation, coding and framing formats; exposure to optical networking domains.
• Experience in lasercom system designs down to photonics components.

Responsibilities

• Support analysis, development, acquisition, integration and testing of advanced optical satellite communication systems and ground terminals.
• Lead studies, coordinate tasks, build teams, and present results to stakeholders.
• Support DoD, IC customers including NRO and civil programs.
• Demonstrate leadership and proposal of corrective actions and risk-reduction efforts.
• Represent the organization at program reviews and technical meetings.
