Job summary

FTS International, LLC in Chantilly, VA seeks a Communications Systems Engineer to support analysis, design, and operations for IC/DoD customers. You will provide SETA support, perform technical reviews, and help develop roadmaps for optical and quantum communication systems.

The role requires TS/SCI with polygraph, a BS in an engineering discipline, and 12+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years in optical/quantum systems. Strong writing and collaboration skills are essential.

• BS STEM in engineering discipline required.
• 12+ years of relevant experience with 4+ years in optical/quantum comms.
• Experience with USG program management and acquisition lifecycle processes.

Responsibilities

• Support development of next-generation national security systems across land, sea, air, and space domains.
• Provide SETA support to IC R&D customer for advanced optical/quantum systems.
• Perform technical reviews, risk evaluations, and assessments of optical/quantum development efforts.
• Evaluate designs including optical terminals, free-space optical links, photonic components, and quantum-enabled subsystems.
• Assess emerging technologies and identify gaps in high-bandwidth space links and secure transport architectures.
• Develop technology roadmaps, requirements, specifications, and verification approaches.
• Conduct outreach with mission users to capture needs and applicability of optics/quantum capabilities.
• Prepare system engineering docs and program-level briefings for findings and recommendations.
• Support programmatic activities including source selections and lifecycle documentation.
