Job summary

Chicago Police Department is seeking a Lead Forensic Scientist (Latent Prints) to supervise the latent print examination section and oversee evidence handling, testing, and reporting for criminal investigations.

The role includes training staff, developing procedures, and presenting findings in court. Hours are 6:00 AM–2:00 PM or 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with career-service status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science or related field plus four years of experience in forensic analysis and/or science
• Master’s degree in Forensic Science or related field plus three years of experience in forensic analysis and/or science
• IAI Latent Print Certification (within six months of hire)
• Knowledge of forensic laboratory protocols and safety standards

Responsibilities

• Oversee receipt, collection and preservation of evidence in the Forensic laboratory
• Supervise staff assignments for completeness and accuracy
• Write discipline-specific policies, procedures and methods
• Perform independent casework and evaluations in a primary forensic discipline
• Oversee chemical analyses of evidentiary materials and prepare reports for court
