Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a Foreman to lead earthwork crews on heavy civil projects. You will partner with the superintendent to build crews, schedule equipment, and manage production tracking while ensuring safety and quality on site.

The role requires five+ years of field experience, strong communication, and the ability to read grading plans and geotechnical data. On-site work with diverse equipment fleets and active project coordination are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Five plus years heavy civil construction experience.
• Strong verbal communication with staff, inspectors and customers.
• Strong organizational skills for timekeeping and scheduling.
• Strong interpersonal skills to lead and teach crews.
• Ability to read and interpret grading plans and specs.
• Experience with various equipment spreads (trucks to heavy dozers).
• Experience with grade checking using GPS, lasers, stakes and cut sheets.
• Knowledge of forecasting production rates for equipment spreads.
• Knowledge of GPS in grading applications.
• Knowledge of drilling and blasting as it applies to earthwork.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the supervisor to build earthwork crews and plan site earthwork with utility crews.
• Execute plan to meet project schedule and budget; set up cuts/fills and haul routes.
• Rough and fine grade areas to meet specs.
• Record and track production and compare to estimated costs for profitability.
• Schedule employees and equipment to maximize utilization.
• Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors for earthwork needs.
• Maintain knowledge of plans, specs, and schedules; report progress to manager.
• Ensure safety of all on site and comply with OSHA and IX policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
