Downey Unified School District is seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to plan, coordinate, and oversee snack bar and kitchen operations at assigned school sites. You will prepare and sell hot and cold foods, train student workers, and ensure sanitary, standards-compliant service.
The role requires one year of quantity food prep experience, a valid Safe Food Handlers Certificate within five months, and ability to work in a school cafeteria environment. 35 hours weekly, 11 months per year.

Any combination equivalent to: High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience in quantity food preparation in a school cafeteria or commercial establishment. Possession of Safe Food Handlers Certificate within five (5) months' of employment, as well as meeting requirements to keep certificate current.
May require a valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites. May be required to drive between sites.
Incumbents in this classification work indoors and outdoors and/or in changing weather conditions with protection against the elements. School cafeteria or snack bar environment frequented by students; subject to heat from ovens, and cold from walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time; moderate and frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds with assistance; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment; repetitively use fingers and wrists and/or hands in a twisting motion or while applying pressure; carrying, pushing or pulling food trays and carts; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; seeing to assure proper quantities of food; bending and stooping at the waist.
Exposure to changing weather conditions, very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects used in cooking and baking; exposure to sharp knives and slicers.
