Job summary

Travis County Clerk seeks an Equipment Mechanic who maintains and repairs light to heavy vehicles and equipment. You will supervise the team in the absence of the Shop Supervisor, perform inspections, and ensure work adheres to safety and scheduling standards.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with five years of mechanic experience, plus state inspections, Texas licenses, and possibly a CDL with endorsements. Work hours are 7:00-3:30 PM, Mon-Fri, at East Service in Austin.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of full-time motor vehicle and/or equipment mechanic experience.
• Or any combination of education and experience deemed equivalent to the stated education and experience.
• State Inspector’s License or within sixty (60) days of hire.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required for automotive mechanic area.
• Valid Texas CDL with Tank Vehicle “N” endorsement required for equipment mechanic area, or within one year of hire.
• Air Conditioner (R12 & 134A) Refrigerant License or within sixty (60) days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Services, inspects, diagnoses, and repairs motor vehicles and equipment per preventive maintenance schedules or unscheduled repairs.
• Provide lead supervision to subordinates and staff in the absence of the supervisor.
• Prepare and complete new vehicle birthing forms and make-ready for new vehicles/equipment.
• Conduct quality control checks and test drives; maintain repair records.
• Perform Motor Vehicle State Inspections (safety and emissions) and field service calls.
