Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa Subsidiary, is hiring for Lead Fitter/Welders at our plant in Steele, AL. As a Lead Fitter/Welder, you will use jigs and fixtures to layout pieces based on blueprints, schematics, or work orders. You will operate manual, semi-automatic, or automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal parts. You will also inspect work for quality and perform minor maintenance on equipment.

What you'll do:
  • Lead a team of welders
  • Perform weld repairs
  • Complete tasks efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Apply appropriate welding processes according to blueprints and work orders
  • Perform complex repairs and weld clips and hardware
  • Weld full penetration joints to poles or channels
  • Operate grinding equipment
  • Train lower-level welders (if applicable)
  • Lay out and mark weld points
  • Position pieces using jigs and measuring tools
  • Inspect work for conformance to specifications
  • Maintain quality and safety standards
  • Keep accurate records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you'll need:
  • Minimum of 4 years of welding experience
  • Flux Core welding experience
  • Certification to perform horizontal and vertical welds
  • Ability to perform multi-pass and 'C' (circumference) welds
  • Qualify as a flat welder
  • Maintain a 90% pass rate on UT inspections
  • Basic understanding of Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting and Carbon Arcing
  • Good attendance record
