Job summary

The Commonwealth of Kentucky, through the Peter W. Pfeiffer Fish Hatchery, is seeking a Fish and Wildlife Management Foreman to lead building maintenance and fish culture activities in Franklin County. This hands-on role supervises staff and coordinates equipment use to support statewide fisheries programs.

The position involves spawning, pond culture, and data collection, with seasonal outdoor work. A bachelor's degree in biological sciences and at least one year of wildlife/fisheries

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, natural, agricultural, or aquacultural sciences.
  • One year of experience in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation or related field.
  • Master's degree can substitute for the required experience.
  • Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and maintains technical equipment for building maintenance and fish culture activities.
  • Performs fish culture activities such as sampling, harvesting, and broodstock management.
  • Supervises fish and wildlife technicians and trains staff on safety and equipment use.
  • Drives large fish transport vehicles and stocks fish into public waters.
  • Assists with purchasing supplies and maintaining equipment records.
  • Supports other fisheries staff with habitat improvement and broodstock work.
