Job summary

Watney is hiring firmware engineers to write and bring up firmware for robot mainboards and actuators in collaboration with manufacturing partners. You will contribute to the reliability and safety of every robot through architecture decisions that affect future platforms.

You will develop drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and hardware-in-the-loop tests in Rust and C, working with ML and mechanical teams to validate new sensors and embodiments.

Qualifications

• Shipped production firmware to millions of devices.
• Proficient in Rust or C production firmware.
• Experience debugging hardware interfaces and abnormal conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead board bring-up with manufacturing partners from spec discovery to first boot.
• Write drivers and hardware abstraction layers for microcontrollers and actuators.
• Build and run automated hardware-in-the-loop tests across embodiments.
• Create the common firmware base for mainboards and actuators in Rust and C.
• Collaborate with ML and mechanical teams to prototype and validate new sensors.
