Job summary

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is seeking an experienced Fire Investigation Unit Captain to lead complex investigations and oversee the Fire Investigation Unit. The role emphasizes leadership, integrity, and collaboration with County and City agencies to determine fire origin and cause.

Responsibilities include supervising investigators, coordinating case work, maintaining evidence integrity, and guiding investigations through legal proceedings.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited college/university.
• Valid California Driver's license.
• Experience leading fire investigations.
• Knowledge of NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033 is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee complex fire investigations.
• Coordinate investigations with other County or City agencies.
• Provide technical and investigative expertise.
• Maintain the integrity of evidence and investigative records and prepare cases for legal proceedings.
• Review investigation reports and findings.
• Supervise fire investigators, implementing unit priorities and assigning work.
• Overseeing station operations.
