Job summary

MetroPower is seeking a Lead Technician, Low Voltage to supervise installation, testing and troubleshooting of Fire Alarm systems. The role combines hands‑on technical work with leadership duties, coordinating with project managers and guiding field staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in Fire Alarm installation, NICET certification, and strong knowledge of local codes.

  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to Fire Alarm systems installation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate project work plans, ensuring installations stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Mentor and supervise low voltage technicians, ensuring safety and quality standards.
  • Install low voltage systems per codes and standards; perform testing and commissioning as needed.
  • Complete post-installation documentation and coordinate with supervisors for final inspections.
  • Deliver professional customer service and clear communication throughout project execution.
  • Identify and address safety hazards; promote safety training and PPE compliance.

Job description

The Lead Technician, Low Voltage is responsible for helping supervise and performing the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of Fire Alarm systems. This role combines hands‑on technical work with leadership duties, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards. The Lead Technician coordinates with project managers, guides team members, enforces safety protocols, and maintains high levels of customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination:

  • Review and process work plans in advanced; coordinate tools, equipment, and materials to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency
  • Work with Project Managers and other departments to ensure installations are completed on schedule and within budget
  • Manage daily worksite activities and scheduling impacts to ensure continuous progress
Personnel Guidance & Oversight
  • Help mentor low voltage technician, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to team members as needed
  • Perform regular on-site inspections to confirm all work meets company standards, project specifications, and customer expectations
Installation, Compliance, & Quality Assurance
  • Install low voltage systems in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Ensure all installation work complies with local building codes, safety guidelines, and internal quality standards
  • Maintain knowledge of cable color codes, cable types, industry best practices, and cable testing procedures
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and accurately during installation or service calls
  • Perform necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure full functionality of systems
  • Complete post-installation documentation and coordinate with supervisors for final inspections
Customer Service & Communication
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by delivering professional service and clear communication throughout project execution
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and an organized inventory of tools, materials, and equipment
Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination
  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
Qualifications And Requirements
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • 5+ years of experience in Fire Alarm systems installation, with experience supervising a team of installers
  • Strong knowledge of Fire Alarm and related systems
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to Fire Alarm systems installation
  • NICET Certification required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems with low voltage systems
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of workers
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Physical Requirements
  • Working in indoor & outdoor conditions
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and /or walking, & climbing up & down ladders
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, kneeling, balancing
  • Climbing ladders of various heights and working in cramped corridors
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus
