Job summary

MetroPower is seeking a Technician 1, Low Voltage to learn installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems across healthcare, commercial, and industrial projects. You will read blueprints, ensure safety compliance, troubleshoot issues, and support on-time installations while delivering excellent customer service.

The role involves collaborating with field teams, staying current on low-voltage standards, and maintaining detailed documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect work areas and complete Job Hazard Analysis prior to starting work to ensure a safe jobsite and compliance with company safety standards.
  • Review and plan daily tasks, equipment, tools, and material needs to maintain project efficiency and quality.
  • Analyze blueprints and prepare for upcoming tasks by anticipating equipment, procedures, and training needs.
  • Complete post-installation documentation, timesheets, materials reconciliation, and daily logs.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and hardware components at various locations to ensure system functionality and performance.
  • Trace down ground faults and system issues to restore functionality to the end user.
  • Operate necessary vehicles, tools, and equipment as required by job specifications.
  • Stay current on low-voltage cabling codes, color codes, industry standards, and testing procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, team members, permitting authorities, and vendors.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, initiative, and creativity in fieldwork.
  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.

The Technician 1, Low Voltage is responsible for learning the installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems for healthcare, commercial, and industrial projects. This role requires reading blueprints, ensuring compliance with safety and code standards, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting high-quality, on-time installations. The technician will work in diverse environments and collaborate with field teams to deliver reliable, fire alarm troubleshooting solutions while maintaining excellent customer service.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-starter with willingness to take on difficult jobs

Physical Requirements
  • Perform work while standing, climbing ladders, crawling, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs., both indoors and outdoors
  • Work in environments involving moving machinery, temperature fluctuations, dust, fumes, and confined spaces
