Job summary

Hochiki America Corporation seeks an experienced Fire Alarm Electrical Engineer (Advanced/Expert Level) to lead UL/FM approvals and regulatory compliance for U.S. fire alarm and life-safety systems.

This hybrid role requires on-site work at Buena Park, CA or Chicago, IL, with potential international travel for coordination. You will partner with UL/FM labs, internal engineering, and global teams to manage certification programs, interpret standards, and ensure product readiness while balancing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience with regulated or safety-critical products.
  • Hands-on experience with UL certification or comparable third-party certification bodies.
  • Experience with fire alarm systems, life safety products, or similar regulated systems.
  • Experience supporting UL 864 and UL 268 certification projects desirable.
  • Experience operating within a global or matrix organization, balancing regional accountability with global alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical interface with UL engineers for fire alarm control panels and system compatibility.
  • Lead and support UL panel- and system-level testing activities and witness testing as required.
  • Review and support UL submission packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals.
  • Provide technical leadership for certification activities under UL 864, UL 268, FM Approvals and NFPA standards.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements during development and identify certification risks early.
  • Coordinate certification schedules and approval workflows across labs and internal stakeholders.
