The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, certifications, as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $28-$38 per hour.

  • Day shift: work hours are 4/10 hour days, Monday-Thursday

POSITION SUMMARY

As a working lead, performs a full range of rough grinding, polishing, and metal finishing operations on components, manufactured parts, and assemblies in accordance with prescribed specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Manager / Supervisor to ensure workload demands are met.
  • Inform the Manager of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective supervision of the department.
  • Grinds, files, or sands surfaces of metal items using hand tools, power tools, and knowledge of metal finishing techniques. Examines and feels the surface of metal to detect defects, such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal.
  • Use a variety of hand tools and manual techniques to smooth surfaces, grind, and blend to specified finish.
  • May polish metal surfaces, using a powered polishing wheel or belt.
  • Be able to set up and operate straight-line sanders, buffers, timesavers, and hand-held grinders and polishers.
  • Coordinate and complete information for the Manager and other personnel, relative to projects within his/her assigned group to ensure on-time and accurate job completion.
  • Develops, maintains, and portrays a high degree of professionalism and technical competence within the organization, encouraging excellence through example.
  • Recommends measures to improve productivity and quality.
  • Continually works to improve the company’s efficient use of material, capital, and human resources.
  • Responsible for training employees along with the Manager/Supervisor, communicates quality plans and activities as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and “team” approach. Periodically gives input to the Welding Resource Manager on appraising performance; addresses complaints and resolves problems with the Welding Resource Manager.
  • Functions as a technical resource for the finishing department and as such is consistently able to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical personnel and non-technical personnel in an appropriate and understandable manner.
  • Works from drawings, sketches, specifications, and instructions to plan work in proper operational sequence and determine methods and techniques to be applied.
  • Responsible for inspecting the work of the Metal Finisher and repairing defects as needed to produce a quality product that aligns with our Mission Statement.
  • Attends training as needed or required.
  • Ability to use equipment and stage work independently for the team.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams on projects to help meet company goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED + 1 year in the manufacturing industry, preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 Years of Finishing or related experience.
  • A high level of attention to detail is a must, as aesthetic appearance is critical.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in Finishing processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to relate well to others and gain the respect of co-workers.
  • Displays a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Forklift and Crane license.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to problem-solve and develop finishing processes and methods.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The company fosters a manufacturing-type environment. Moderately heavy work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds or less. In the performance of essential duties, the incumbent may be required to operate a variety of industrial machining tools.
