Qualifications

The Lead Survey Technician - Field collaborates with various members of the surveying project team to deliver accurate survey projects on time. The work is primarily conducted at local field locations, with occasional short-term travel outside the KC area a few times per year.

Qualifications
Essential Functions
  • Operate surveying equipment to collect accurate data for design and construction projects
  • Utilize GPS and conventional survey equipment for boundary, ALTA, topographic, and engineering surveys
  • Work from notes, sketches, maps, and other materials with supervision
  • Guide and assist other technicians with survey technology
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Surveyor or Project Manager about field conditions
  • Supervise and direct other Survey Technicians' work
  • Assist in managing schedules and project financials
  • Maintain clear, accurate field notes
  • Develop understanding of advanced survey data analysis under supervision
  • Work cooperatively across multiple crews
  • Maintain and repair field equipment and work vehicles
  • Train or assist in training less experienced staff
  • Process field shots into CAD for survey drafting
  • This position may have direct reports
  • Work scheduled for 40 hours/week with overtime as needed
Position Requirements
Experience
  • At least 6 years of survey crew experience preferred
  • Interest in continuing education (e.g., CST)
  • Knowledge of boundary, ALTA, TOPO, and construction survey operations
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability required
  • Experience with survey operations and equipment required
Skills
  • Proficiency with data collectors and total stations (conventional and robotic)
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk up/down stairs
  • Flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Exposure to outdoor environmental conditions
  • Understanding of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certified Survey Technician (CST) classes in progress or completed
  • Degree in geospatial industry preferred
