Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead field crews on boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys. You will own daily field operations, operate modern surveying equipment, and support project teams in delivering precise data for client projects.

You’ll travel to sites, read plans, and ensure safety while maintaining detailed field notes and timely reports. Strong communication and a steady work ethic are essential for success at SAM.

Qualifications

• Experience leading survey crews.
• Proficiency with total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and Trimble equipment.
• Strong technical and computer skills, with high attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills for field crews, office teams, and clients.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily field crew activities, organizing work to keep projects productive, accurate, and on schedule.
• Plan efficient approaches to collecting survey data, from establishing primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys.
• Read and interpret construction plans, survey specifications, and required tolerances.
• Operate surveying equipment and collect, review, and document field data.
• Maintain clear field notes, sketches, and records that support office processing and project deliverables.
• Communicate progress with project managers, engineers, and technicians.
• Build positive relationships with clients, landowners, and project partners.
• Identify challenges early and coordinate with leadership for additional support.
• Complete daily reports, timesheets, and other required documentation.
• Care for survey equipment and vehicles to keep them ready for field use.
• Follow safety procedures and promote safe work practices.
