Bechtel in Cheyenne, WY seeks a Construction Lead Piping Superintendent for the CCGT Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project. You will supervise piping operations, manage budgets, schedules, and craft personnel, and ensure safety and quality across field activities.

Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is driving unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed the EPC contract for the Cheyenne Power Hub Project, one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the United States.

The candidate will act as the Lead Piping Superintendent for the CCGT Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming, supporting preconstruction planning.

Job Summary:

The Construction Lead Piping Superintendent is responsible for the piping supervision team in the CCGT Area, covering aboveground piping systems, pipe rack and modularized installation, hydrostatic and line testing, and supporting turnover. In this role you will supervise and direct subordinate piping superintendents and craft activities, managing area operations, expenditures, cost and schedule. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, and within scope and budget. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:
Leadership/Supervision
  • Supervises and directs piping craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others in the CCGT Area, as assigned.
  • Manages established area operations and administers project work rules, schedules work to be performed, and reviews work accomplished by each craft.
  • Supports, coordinates and reports field activities of construction subcontracts.
  • Proactively engages with the team's development through CPM, Competency Development/assessment and feedback.
Planning/Productivity
  • Determines workforce requirements and manages area expenditures for labor, equipment, material, and services to keep field operations within budget.
  • Manages activities with other disciplines or areas and clients' resident representatives, as instructed by construction management.
  • Coordinates and directs the work of all related crafts of an assigned area, and forecasts labor unit rates and productivity.
  • Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecast.
  • Manages the development of projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements, and is responsible for the development of level 4 and level 5 project schedules.
  • Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule, and assigns/re-assigns installation work packages.
  • Reviews and approves, where necessary, subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
  • Manages the coordination of construction operations impact on external interfaces and with other subcontractors and external stakeholders to plan construction schedules.
  • Supports piping Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) efforts and sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion.
  • Oversees tool and equipment usage on site and manages the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables so craft professionals have the tools they require to be productive.
Safety/Quality
  • Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and that tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors' performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.
  • Ensures the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations.
  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor and other requirements, and ensures the quality of work performed.
Technical
  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Manages engineering solutions with subcontractors, foremen and craft professionals, and coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
  • Manages the preparation of hydrostatic and pneumatic testing processes and required test equipment, and inspects installed components for technical acceptance.
  • Manages the development of commodity installation means and methods for piping and modularized pipe racks.
  • Implements understanding of industry/International Codes & Standards applicable to the work scope, including ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3.
  • Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes as applicable.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevantexperience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and to a Zero Accident safety program; maintains, promotes, and cultivates a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Able to walk and navigate an active construction site over uneven surfaces, including climbing stairs and ladders, and to work at heights and in confined areas as required.
  • Knowledge of modularization of piping and pipe racks, aboveground and belowground piping systems, large-bore and small-bore installation, and hydrostatic and line testing.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3, and of welding and NDE requirements applicable to piping.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams, including supervision of subordinate superintendents, general foremen, and direct hire craft.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, and able to use Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP) for work packaging, quantity reporting, and progress tracking.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability, with the ability to gain the cooperation of other disciplines, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience on combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facilities or large gas-fired power generation projects.
  • Experience with system walkdowns, ITR completion, and Smart Completions turnover to commissioning and start-up.
  • Experience supporting preconstruction planning from a home office ahead of field mobilization.
