Job summary

The Jefferson County, Oregon District Attorney’s Office seeks a Chief Deputy District Attorney to oversee prosecution of the majority of serious felony cases and to supervise deputies while assisting in administration of the department.

This role requires leadership, courtroom excellence, and mentorship of staff. Minimum law degree requirements and supervisory experience apply. On-call duties and cross-agency coordination are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and JD from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of five years trial advocacy experience or equivalent and 2-3 years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Review police reports, interview victims/witnesses, and make charging decisions.
• Prepare and present felony cases to Grand Jury and trial court.
• Evaluate evidence, negotiate plea agreements, and draft legal memoranda.
• supervise Deputy District Attorneys and staff; provide guidance and training.
• Respond to crime scenes and coordinate with police, medical examiner, and lab services.
• Attend continuing education and perform related duties as required.
