Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a skilled Public Works worker who will operate and supervise a range of municipal equipment and facilities. A valid CDL Class B with Air Brakes is required at application and hire, with ongoing eligibility to maintain endorsement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 3–5 years of experience in safe operation and maintenance of assigned equipment, tree trimming, beach maintenance, landscape maintenance, or related areas.
• Requires Class B with Airbrakes.
• Veterans’ Preference documentation may be requested as per Florida statutes.

Responsibilities

• Leads the work of assigned staff; delegates, reviews, and prioritizes work assignments; provides guidance on complex activities.
• Supervises and participates in repairs and maintenance of municipal facilities, property, and city parks.
• Maintains records of maintenance and repair work; creates reports on equipment and facility projects.
• Operates or supervises operation of equipment such as surf rakes, chippers, front-end loaders, aerial bucket trucks, pressure washers, and other heavy equipment.
• Inspects and maintains tools, equipment, and materials; ensures proper inventory levels.
• Responds to and resolves questions and complaints from the public.
