Job summary

Rockford seeks a Lead Estimator in Grand Rapids to direct estimating strategy within our Preconstruction team. You will drive complex project estimates, validate numbers, and partner with the Director of Preconstruction to improve accuracy and process quality.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Construction Management or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience, with strong leadership and proficiency in Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, and Excel. Office location is Grand Rapids, MI.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant estimating experience for complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, oversee, and participate in all cost estimating activities for complex/high-value projects.
  • Review and validate estimates for accuracy and competitiveness prior to client presentations.
  • Create budgets and estimates across conceptual to CD stages; read designs and specs.
  • Guide preconstruction strategy and support project pursuits with senior leadership.
  • Lead value engineering efforts to provide cost-effective solutions.

Partnering with the Director of Preconstruction, you’ll help strengthen team capabilities, enhance estimate quality, and foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster an environment of strong teamwork, strength through diversity in thought and background & belonging.
  • Partner with the Director of Preconstruction to lead team initiatives and support overall department performance.
  • Lead, oversee, and activelyparticipatein allcost estimatingactivities, with a focus on complex or high-value projects.
  • Review andvalidateestimates to ensure accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness prior to client presentation.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of commercial constructionprojectsranging in costs from $100,000 to $200 Million.
  • Create Conceptual, Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Document (CD) budgets and estimates.
  • Haveabilityto perform detailed quantity takeoffs across all trades involved in a project.
  • Utilize estimating software -Procore, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam.
  • Haveabilityto read and understand project plans and specifications at all levels of design.
  • Assistwith hard bid/low bid project assembly and strategy.
  • Approve project proposals/estimate packages prior to presentation.
  • Lead and contribute to value engineering efforts to provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Create and review project-specific Basis of Design documentation for presentations and exhibits.
  • Maintain proper tracking of all projects/estimates in company management software.
  • Attend andparticipatein project-specific interviews and client presentations.
  • Support Project Managers and Operations teams asa key partnerin preconstruction and project planning meetings.
  • Identifyand implement improvements toestimatingprocesses, tools, and standards.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and honesty; not divulging confidential informationpertaining tothe company’s operations or bids to outside parties.
  • Assist in managing projectestimatorassignments,projectworkflowand schedule tracking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Managementor related field,andminimum of8 years ofrelevantexperience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex estimates and influence project outcomes.
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to develop team members.
  • Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
  • High levelof analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and honesty; not divulging confidential informationpertaining tothe company’s operations or bids to outside parties.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Environmental Factors and Working Conditions

The work environment for this position is a typical office environment with occasional construction site visits. When in the office, the physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time. Intermittent movement, such as accessing centrally located office equipment, lifting of 35 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, may be necessary to perform the requirements of this position. Site visits may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn as required on project sites and in the warehouse.
