Job summary

York County, VA is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator for the Grounds Maintenance and Construction Division to perform heavy machinery tasks and lead other workers in the field.

The role includes operating graders, loaders, backhoes, and tractors, performing maintenance, and assisting with irrigation and plumbing work. A Class A CDL is required within six months of hire, and the job entails lifting 50–75 pounds and working outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy motorized equipment with safety practices.
• Virginia Class A CDL required within 6 months of hire.
• Pre-employment checks including driving record and background.

Responsibilities

• Operate motor grader, tractors, trailers to grade fields and haul materials.
• Lead and supervise Equipment Operators and Construction/Maintenance Workers.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.
• Assist with construction, repair of fences, sewers, plumbing and irrigation.
• Maintain athletic fields and playground areas; assist with snow removal.
• Assist in training less experienced operators and perform other related work.
• Lift between 50 and 75 pounds and perform heavy manual labor as needed.
