Job summary

Humane Society of Missouri is seeking a Lead Equine Care Specialist at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch. The role involves supervising staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality care for rescued horses and farm animals, and supporting veterinary and farrier work as needed.

The ideal candidate brings professional horse handling experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage schedules including weekends. A Class E license and hauling experience are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Must have professional horse handling experience including halter training and socializing.
• Have or be able to obtain a Class E driver’s license.
• Horse hauling experience is preferred.
• Great people skills are essential alongside animal care abilities.
• Experience with other farm animals is desirable.
• Proficiency with basic computing (Word, Excel, email, Internet).
• Prior lead or supervisory experience is a plus.
• Flexible schedule with weekend work required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and check the work of other employees and ranch volunteers.
• Provide proper care for all animals including feeding, watering and turnout.
• Adhere to feeding, sanitation and medical procedures.
• Assist with restraining animals for veterinarians and farriers.
• Maintain and update animal records in the computer system.
