Job summary

The World Bank in Washington, DC is seeking an Adviser to serve as Lead Environmental Specialist. The role focuses on mobilizing private capital for global environmental benefits, overseeing the Blended Finance and Private Sector Coordination Unit, and shaping GEF-9 priorities.

The successful candidate will work directly with the CEO and collaborate with GEF agencies, MDBs, and investors to design scalable financing solutions, assess bankability, and advance innovative non-grant instruments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in finance, economics, or related field required.
• Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in environment, finance or development.
• Experience with blended finance, non-grant instruments, private sector mobilization.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical advice to the CEO on nature, environmental, and climate finance, including private capital mobilization.
• Lead, supervise, and coordinate the Blended Finance and Private Sector Coordination Unit.
• Analyze transaction structures, capital mobilization, and alignment with environmental benefits.
• Engage with GEF Agencies, MDBs, DFIs, and private investors to mobilize resources.
• Develop replicable financial products to reduce risk or cost of capital for environmental investments.
• Oversee policy development and reporting to GEF council on blended finance topics.
