Job summary

Epic Games in Cary, North Carolina seeks a Lead Environment Concept Artist to guide external vendors in producing high-quality environment concepts for Fortnite's Disney collaboration. You will supervise a small team, define pipelines, and ensure consistency in world-building and architectural integrity.

The role requires elite design fundamentals, strong leadership, and excellent communication within a fast-paced AAA environment, partnering with Art Directors and Outsource Managers.

Qualifications

• Shipped AAA credit on at least one title.
• Elite portfolio demonstrating composition, atmosphere, and design skills.
• Mastery of production blueprints (turnarounds, callouts, reference sheets).
• Strong cross-team collaboration and understanding of game engines' role in art.
• Ability to give clear, actionable feedback to vendors and peers.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced studio.
• Versatile styling for highly expressive world-building.
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine workflows and lighting influence.

Responsibilities

• Vendor direction and quality control for external concept art vendors.
• Create production-ready environment concept designs and documentation.
• Develop mood boards, lighting keys, and atmosphere targets for external teams.
• Coordinate with Level Design, Lighting, and VFX to ensure playable spaces.
• Mentor and direct a small internal team of concept artists.
• Identify communication gaps and scheduling risks early and escalate as needed.
