Job summary

Lillibridge Healthcare Services is seeking a Lead Engineer, Research to oversee operation, maintenance, and reliability of building systems across on-campus and off-campus research facilities in the Richmond area.

The role ensures a safe, compliant, and high-performing environment for tenants, clients, patients, and visitors, with after-hours on-call availability and a focus on supporting research and laboratory operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in maintenance preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between properties as needed.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related maintenance experience; healthcare, commercial real estate, or hospital environments preferred.
  • Certifications (HVAC, CFC Handling, Electrical, Plumbing) preferred.
  • Must be located in the Richmond, VA area with availability for after-hours emergencies and on-call rotation.
  • Must be in office, on-site, 5 days a week and drive to properties with employee-owned vehicle as needed.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders/stairs, and perform extensive walking.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with maintenance or work order software.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Complete maintenance and repair work orders using work order software.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and resolve issues safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and parts.
  • Communicate effectively with tenants, vendors, and team members regarding building needs.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and procedures.
  • Support the Senior Property Manager in monitoring building operations and vendor performance.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

About the Role

The Lead Engineer, Research supports a portfolio of on-campus and/or off-campus research, innovation, and laboratory buildings. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of building systems, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-performing environment for tenants, clients, patients, and visitors. The Lead Engineer, Research plays a critical role in maintaining building infrastructure and delivering exceptional service to support the unique needs of research and laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

The estimated base salary range for this position is $38–$46 per hour. This range reflects a good-faith estimate of the base salary Ventas reasonably expects to pay at the time of posting. Actual base pay will be determined based on work location, skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and business needs. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, paid time off, and other wellness benefits under applicable plan terms.
