P04 – Lead Engineer, Reliability/Structural
Job Summary
The Lead Engineer, Reliability/Structural leads classical test and hardware design debug activities Austin, supporting Server, Storage, Networking, AI Infrastructure, and Rack-level platforms. The role is responsible for independently leading validation activities, interfacing with customers, and building local validation capabilities while collaborating with global teams.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Validation Planning & Execution
- Execute environmental, structural, and reliability testing.
- Coordinate outsourced testing with third-party labs.
- Monitor validation progress and drive closure of issues.
- Develop qualification test plans, validation strategy, and test matrices.
- Define validation scope based on customer and program requirements.
Failure Analysis & Corrective Action
- Lead root cause analysis for mechanical, structural, and reliability failures.
- Apply structured methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, and Fishbone analysis.
- Drive corrective actions and support design improvements.
- Conduct risk assessments and validation gap analysis.
Lab Development & Operations
- Support Austin lab capability build-out and validation readiness.
- Perform chamber operation, test setup, instrumentation, and data collection.
- Develop standard operating procedures and safety procedures.
- Improve in-house validation capabilities, efficiency, and repeatability.
Third-Party Lab Management
- Identify and manage external validation labs.
- Lead RFQs, scheduling, test coordination, and oversight.
- Perform witness testing and validate test results.
- Review reports and ensure corrective actions are tracked to closure.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the Product Validation interface for customers and project stakeholders.
- Lead validation reviews, issue resolution discussions, and action tracking.
- Present validation results, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and business audiences.
Job Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in validation or reliability engineering.
- Experience with server, storage, networking, AI infrastructure, or rack-level systems.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong knowledge of environmental, structural, and reliability validation methods.
- Working knowledge of root cause analysis tools including 8D, FMEA, and Fishbone analysis.
- Familiarity with applicable validation standards such as IEC, MIL-STD, NEBS, ISTA, and ASTM.
- Ability to lead validation execution, coordinate external labs, and manage technical risks with limited oversight.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate validation findings into clear stakeholder messaging.
