Job summary

Qualus invites a Lead Protection & Control Engineer to join our Substation Protection and Control team. You will lead a multi-disciplinary group across project phases—from proposal through as-built—across several sites including Boise, ID, with a focus on protection relays, schematics, and SCADA packages.

You will mentor engineers and drafters, coordinate with engineering groups, and present technical solutions to clients.

Qualifications

• BS EE required; MS considered in lieu of BS; Civil or international degs considered.
• Seven (7) or more years of electrical engineering experience in protection & control; PE preferred/required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Strong analytical and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of protection & control engineers, technicians, and drafters from proposal to as-built.
• Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups for design concurrence.
• Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications.
• Develop SCADA packages, including input/output lists.
• Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters and engineers.
• Build relationships with senior level engineers, managers, and clients.
• Present technical solutions to customers and respond to technical questions.
• Participate in client meetings and site visits to collect or deliver design data.
• Ensure QA/QC processes are followed on all design packages.
• Delegate, plan, prioritize, and review work of other engineers.

in our Substation Protection and Control department as a Lead Protection & Control Engineer. Our team is growing, and we are seeking seasoned Protection and Control Engineers who are in or ready for leadership and have a desire to mentor up and coming engineers. If you have 7+ years of experience in major utility substations, we want to hear from you!

This position may be based in Lake Mary, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Las Vegas, NV, Boise, ID; Raleigh, NC; or Fort Worth, TX.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of protection & control engineers, engineering technicians, and drafting technicians from project proposal to project as-built stage.
• Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
• Development of complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC schematics, DC schematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, control house layouts, wiring/connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipment specifications and bill of materials.
• Development of SCADA packages, including input / output list (Point Data Sheet)
• Provides technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers.
• Developing, nurturing and maintaining trusted relationships with senior level engineers, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients.
• Confidently and comfortably present technical solutions to key customers; respond in real time to technical concerns and answer questions in a knowledgeable articulate manner.
• Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
• Perform/Ensure company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed on all design packages.
• Delegating, planning, prioritizing and reviewing the work of other engineers will be critical.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE). Civil Engineering degrees will also be considered. An MS Degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the BS Engineering degree. International Engineering Degrees will be considered.
• Seven (7) or more years of electrical engineering experience is desired, experience in protection and control engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Must have strong analytical and computer skills.
