Job summary

Monks is seeking a Lead Fullstack Engineer who will define the technical direction for production web applications. You will own architecture across React/Next.js and Node/TypeScript, set patterns and guardrails, and stay hands-on in the codebase to raise quality across the team.

You’ll lead within a Monks delivery team, collaborating with clients and product to shape scope, make hard trade-offs, and mentor engineers to grow capabilities in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Lead Fullstack Engineer

Set the technical bar for the whole build.

About the Role

We build production web applications for clients, end to end, from the data model to the pixels. As a Lead Fullstack Engineer, you set the technical direction for the build: you make the architecture calls, establish the patterns the rest of the team follows, and stay hands-on in the codebase. You are the person who can move across the entire stack and raise the quality bar wherever you land.

You’ll lead within a Monks delivery team, working closely with clients and product to shape scope and trade-offs, own the hard technical decisions, and help the engineers around you do their best work.

We’re all-in on agentic engineering. Tools like Claude Code and Codex are part of our everyday workflow, and we’re looking for people who are genuinely fluent working alongside AI coding agents and excited to push those practices further.

What You’ll Do

• Own end-to-end architecture across the frontend (React / Next.js) and backend (Node / TypeScript).


• Establish the patterns, standards, and guardrails the team builds against.


• Stay hands-on, designing and shipping the core of the product.


• Review and gate work, including AI-generated code, for quality and consistency.


• Break ambiguous problems into clear workstreams the team can execute.


• Partner with clients and product to shape scope and technical trade-offs.


• Mentor engineers and grow the team’s capability.

What You Bring

• 8+ years building and shipping full-stack web applications, including time as a technical lead or owner.


• Deep TypeScript across the stack: React and Next.js on the front end, Node on the back end.


• Strong system design: API design, data modeling, and scalable architecture on AWS.


• A track record of setting patterns and raising quality across a team.


• Comfort owning ambiguity and driving decisions to a conclusion.


• Strong English communication skills.


• Comfortable in a fast-paced, agile consulting environment.

Extra Credit

• You’ve built AI-heavy products or integrated LLMs into real workflows.


• You’ve created design systems or shared component libraries.


• Deep PostgreSQL experience.


• A client-facing or consulting background.
