Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional discipline focused on an approach, mindset, and process that considers both business and technical needs of customers to deliver high-quality products. It involves designing, creating, and optimizing systems by identifying requirements, exploring design options, performing trade studies, selecting the best designs, and verifying their proper integration and execution, from concept to production and operation.

Job Description

As a member of the GE Renewable Energy Hybrids team, the successful candidate will support GE Renewable's initiatives related to power systems and power electronics equipment and services.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide product development and technical analysis for power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage, and large industrial drives.
  2. Develop models using PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory, PSCAD, and other tools.
  3. Tune controllers to meet grid code performance requirements.
  4. Understand electrical characteristics of GE Hybrids power electronics products and their grid integration.
  5. Support customers with power systems engineering expertise, including design, specification, commissioning, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  6. Contribute to the development of transmission and distribution products by participating in industry standards and innovating in power equipment design.
  7. Communicate analyses, solutions, and value propositions effectively through reports and presentations.
  8. Support domestic and international projects, communicating customer needs and feedback to GE.
  9. Participate in project teams to ensure quality, budget, and schedule targets are met.
  10. Promote teamwork, quality, customer service, and innovation in the work environment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Master’s or PhD in electrical or power engineering, or a Bachelor’s with 3 years relevant experience.
  2. Minimum 3 years of professional experience in engineering, with proficiency in MATLAB, PSSE, PSLF, Python, C, C#.

Desired Characteristics:

  1. Experience in modeling and analyzing electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads.
  2. Experience with project planning and execution in power systems and equipment design.
  3. Proficiency with modeling tools like PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB, and experience with HIL testing and programming environments like Python or Fortran.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Understanding of grid interactions and experience with time-domain simulation tools.
  6. Advanced degrees or industry recognition, such as IEEE/CIGRE publications or patents, are a plus.
