Job summary

Salt Digital Recruitment seeks a senior embedded cybersecurity engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to own security across complex embedded products. You will shape architecture, security standards, and long-term engineering direction for GNSS-enabled devices, collaborating with embedded engineering, platform, product and infrastructure teams.

You will drive security architecture, evaluate vulnerabilities, translate requirements into practical designs, and guide cross-functional teams on secure, scalable

Qualifications

  • Strong cybersecurity principles in embedded or device-level software.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and connectivity.
  • Extensive experience with C and C++ in embedded software.
  • Hands-on RTOS experience with scheduling, concurrency, synchronization.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux or similar Linux-based platforms.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions across teams.

  • Evaluate vulnerabilities and guide mitigations across embedded software and device systems.

What Makes This Role Great

This role gives you broad technical ownership over security for complex embedded products operating in demanding environments. You will help shape how future positioning and navigation devices are secured, working across embedded engineering, platform, product, and infrastructure teams. It is a senior technical role with significant input into architecture, security standards, and long-term engineering direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop security architecture and technical safeguards for embedded devices that rely on GNSS and related positioning technologies.
  • Evaluate vulnerabilities and technical risks across embedded software, communications, and device-level systems, then guide engineering teams through mitigation.
  • Work with engineering and product stakeholders to turn security requirements into practical product and software designs.
  • Help define software architecture that can operate across different embedded operating environments and evolve over time.
  • Support secure communication between connected devices, backend platforms, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Act as a senior technical resource for embedded cybersecurity decisions, architecture reviews, and engineering standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong background applying cybersecurity principles within embedded or device-level software.
  • Solid understanding of network communication, connectivity, and common protocol concepts.
  • Significant professional experience developing embedded software with C and C++.
  • Hands-on experience with RTOS environments, including scheduling, concurrency, mutexes, semaphores, and related synchronization concepts.
  • Strong experience developing within Embedded Linux or similar Linux-based platforms.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and work across engineering, product, and other stakeholder groups.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to GNSS, GPS, navigation, positioning, or similar embedded technologies.
  • Familiarity with securing communication between embedded hardware and cloud or backend services.
  • Experience redesigning, upgrading, or migrating older embedded platforms into newer software architectures.
