Job summary

General Matter in the United States is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to guide safety-critical software for our industrial systems. You will own architecture, mentor a small team, and stay hands-on in development.

You will build firmware in C/C++ and Rust, design control architectures, and collaborate with hardware and controls engineers to bring up new systems. A BS in STEM and embedded systems expertise are required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM field.
• 7+ years in technical leadership defining architecture and requirements.
• 1+ year managing a team, with system-architecture experience.
• Development experience in C, C++, Golang, Python, or Rust.
• Experience with embedded or low-level systems development.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop safety-critical embedded software powering General Matter's industrial systems.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a small team while remaining hands-on in execution.
• Build low-level firmware in C/C++ and Rust to control actuators and process sensor data.
• Design robust control architectures, state machines, and data acquisition systems for hardware.
• Own software from development through deployment with automated build, test, and validation infrastructure.
• Collaborate with hardware, electrical, and controls engineers to integrate firmware with hardware.
• Perform safety analyses and validate control logic for deterministic behavior.
• Debug real-world embedded systems with lab instruments.
• Contribute to integrated system testing and continuous improvement of embedded software.
