Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the platform software team responsible for embedded avionics software across safety-critical commercial and military applications.

You will guide engineers from entry-level to senior levels, ensure DO-178 certification readiness, and collaborate with hardware, systems, and SoC/MPSoC design teams to drive robust software solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) required or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years relevant experience or 5 years with advanced degree; or 12 years without a degree.
• Experience with embedded C and platform-level software development; strong networking background.
• Prior experience with RTOS such as VxWorks or LynxOS, used in safety-critical avionics.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and implementation of embedded platform software for legacy and NextGen programs.
• Provide technical leadership during pursuit, planning, execution, and sustainment.
• Define interfaces with hardware and SoC/MPSoC teams and drive architectural decisions.
• Ensure compliance with Collins Aerospace engineering processes and DO-178 certifications.
