Job summary

Norfolk Public School District is seeking an Elementary Music Teacher to inspire young learners in vocal or instrumental music. The role is full-time, exempt, with a standard 7.33 hours per day across 200 days per year, starting immediately.

You'll plan a balanced music program, teach fundamentals, and direct classroom rehearsals and performances, while maintaining equipment and maintaining clear communication with families and staff. Experience with chorus or band routines is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in music education required.
• Virginia Teacher’s Certificate/Licensure or eligible required.
• In depth knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught.
• Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teaches knowledge and skills in music appreciation, fundamentals, and explorations in music for elementary pupils.
• Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time for instruction and rehearsal.
• Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil.
• Maintains inventory and uses school-owned property and instruments; coordinates repairs as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in music education (vocal or instrumentation).
