Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks an Electronics Engineer to provide expert-level electronics and electrical systems engineering for advanced instrumentation. You will design, analyze, and lead hardware development, translating scientific goals into robust hardware and test plans.

Qualifications

Degree in engineering with ABET accreditation or equivalent, plus strong fundamentals in electronics and physics.
Bachelor’s in CS or math with calculus coursework; engineering knowledge required.
At least one year of specialized experience at or above the 13th grade level in electronics system design.

Responsibilities

Conceive and oversee development of complex electrical/electronics systems for instrumentation.
Translate objectives into hardware requirements and instrument performance characteristics.
Lead design reviews, supplier evaluations, and project planning; document results.
Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and technical reports for proposals and projects.
Collaborate with scientists and engineers; present findings to stakeholders.
