Lead Electrical Power Engineer - Switchgear

Lead Electrical Engineer – Power Distribution & Switchgear

A growing engineering and manufacturing organization serving critical infrastructure markets is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of electrical control and power distribution systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex low- and medium-voltage projects supporting mission-critical facilities across a variety of industrial sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing complete electrical design packages, collaborating with cross-functional teams, supporting manufacturing and testing activities, and providing technical leadership within the engineering department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop complete electrical design packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, one-line diagrams, and bills of materials.
  • Design low- and medium-voltage power distribution, control, and switchgear systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, mechanical engineering, field service, and project teams to resolve technical issues and improve product reliability.
  • Provide technical support during production, commissioning, and customer witness testing activities.
  • Review project requirements and specifications to develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Support estimating and project teams by providing technical input on equipment sizing, configurations, and project feasibility.
  • Research new technologies, components, and materials to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead technical discussions with customers and stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while helping establish and improve engineering standards and best practices.
  • Participate in new product development and engineering innovation projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience involving switchgear, power distribution, motor controls, or related electrical systems.
  • Experience designing low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of generator controls, protective relays, arc flash mitigation, short-circuit analysis, and power system integration.
  • Strong understanding of electrical industry standards including IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and UL.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, electrical CAD software, and related engineering design tools.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, electrical drawings, and one-line diagrams.
  • Experience supporting industrial, marine, energy, oil & gas, or heavy manufacturing projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with ERP, PLM, and Microsoft Office systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors, production personnel, and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with medium-voltage switchgear and protection systems.
  • Background in mission-critical power, energy, industrial automation, or power generation applications.
  • Combination of office and manufacturing-floor environments.
  • Frequent interaction with production personnel and engineering teams.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate manufacturing facilities safely.
  • Regional travel may be required to support projects, testing, and customer activities.
