Job summary

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer for our Roanoke, VA office. You will provide electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater facility projects, serving as lead electrical engineer when required.

The role supports local, regional, and other firm projects as requested. The candidate will contribute to power systems design, specifications, and project management, with opportunities to mentor staff and assist in business development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 5–14 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial electrical engineering and design.
• Licensed as a registered professional engineer in at least one U.S. state.
• Ability to be licensed in additional states at the firm’s request.
• Experience with SKM or ETAP power system software.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit BIM software.
• Experience in Microsoft Office products.
• Strong communication skills allowing for successful interaction with clients, contractors, and other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Power systems design for medium and low voltage distribution, generator design, motor controls, VFDs, lighting, and equipment layout for water and wastewater facilities.
• Prepare project specifications and edit electrical master specifications as needed.
• Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple concurrent projects with adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
• Perform site visits from design through construction.
• Design in AutoCAD and/or Revit as required by the project.
• Conduct power system studies in SKM and/or ETAP.
• Complete construction administration tasks including shop drawings reviews and RFIs.
