Job summary

Orion Talent is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager in Lynchburg, VA to lead a team of electrical engineers and designers responsible for conveyor control systems, power distribution, PLC programming, and automation solutions.

You will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet safety and customer requirements, coordinating with cross-functional teams and guiding technology advances in the field.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; 7–10+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in conveyor systems, automation, or material handling.
• Proven leadership experience managing engineers and designers.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial automation.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor electrical engineers, controls engineers, and designers.
• Oversee electrical design for conveyor and material-handling systems.
• Review and approve electrical schematics, panel layouts, and control drawings.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and customer specifications.
• Coordinate with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, project management, and installation teams.
• Lead development of PLC, HMI, VFD, and automated control systems.
• Support commissioning and startup with complex electrical and controls troubleshooting.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve conveyor performance and reliability.
• Manage engineering resources and priorities across multiple projects.
• Participate in customer meetings and provide technical support.
