Job description

This is an opportunity for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join one of the Midwest’s most established electrical construction businesses, delivering complex projects across data centers, healthcare, commercial, and institutional facilities.

You will serve as the technical authority for electrical engineering projects from initial design through construction and commissioning. This is a genuine player-coach role, combining hands-on engineering with client leadership and the opportunity to mentor and develop a growing team.

The role offers real influence over engineering standards, technical quality, and project delivery within a collaborative business with a long-standing reputation across the Chicago market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead complex electrical projects from concept through construction and commissioning
  • Own the design and review of low- and medium-voltage power distribution, generator, UPS, grounding, lighting, and life safety systems
  • Act as the technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Lead and mentor a small engineering team while remaining hands-on with technical delivery
  • Drive engineering quality, constructability, code compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Support projects through RFIs, submittals, site surveys, testing, and commissioning
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience across mission-critical, commercial, healthcare, or institutional facilities
  • Strong expertise in building electrical systems and low- and medium-voltage power distribution
  • Experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, and working directly with clients
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, Revit or AutoCAD, and SKM, ETAP, or similar software
  • Player-coach mentality with strong technical judgment, communication, and leadership presence
Preferred Experience:
  • Electrical construction or design-build experience
  • Data center or other mission-critical project experience
  • Commissioning, testing, and construction support experience

The position follows a hybrid model, typically with two days per week in the Oak Brook office or on-site and remote flexibility for the remaining three days. Relocation support may be considered for the right candidate.

Join a business where you can take technical ownership of complex projects, directly influence how the engineering function develops, and help build a high-performing team around you.
