A growing manufacturer of mission-critical electrical power equipment is seeking a Lead Electrical Designer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical design professional to lead the design and development of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment used in industrial, utility, and mission-critical applications.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for electrical design projects, mentor junior designers, and work closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and production teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable electrical systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, control panels, and power distribution equipment.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and single-line diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Develop and review Bills of Materials (BOMs), wire lists, cable schedules, and terminal plans.
  • Oversee engineering changes and ensure accurate revision control of electrical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and engineers.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, project management, supply chain, and production teams to ensure designs are accurate, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
  • Support prototype builds, factory testing, production troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in customer design reviews and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain electrical design standards, drawing libraries, and component databases.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and customer specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of electrical design experience in power distribution equipment, switchgear, industrial controls, or electrical manufacturing.
  • Strong experience designing medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Experience selecting electrical components including breakers, relays, transformers, protection devices, PLCs, and control systems.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and develop complete electrical design packages.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience

Experience with:

  • Medium-Voltage (MV) Switchgear
  • Low-Voltage (LV) Switchgear
  • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
  • Power Distribution Equipment
  • Protective Relay and Control Systems
  • UL 891, UL 1558, IEEE C37, NEC, and NEMA standards
  • Schneider Electric, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, or similar power distribution equipment
What You'll Do
  • Lead electrical equipment design from concept through manufacturing.
  • Drive design standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
  • Work directly with customers, manufacturing, and project management on complex projects.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and manufacturing efforts.
  • Help shape future electrical design processes and best practices.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven technical leader with strong electrical design expertise.
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution equipment and switchgear.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Hands-on problem solver with a passion for delivering high-quality engineered solutions.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join an established engineering organization where you'll play a key role in designing mission-critical electrical power equipment while leading projects and helping develop the next generation of electrical designers.
