Job description

Lead Electrical Controls Engineer

$110000 - $145000 per year | Tulsa, OK | On-site | Permanent

Lead the design of critical combustion safety systems while staying hands-on with electrical panels, schematics, and industrial controls.

A bit about us:

Our client is a premier engineering company specializing in fired heaters, process furnaces, and industrial combustion systems. The company delivers engineered solutions for demanding industrial applications where electrical design quality, process safety, and reliable equipment operation are essential.

The team is seeking a seasoned Electrical Controls Engineer to serve as a working lead for a group of controls designers and drafters. This is a highly hands-on position, with approximately 70% of the role dedicated to electrical engineering design, panel layouts, schematics, and drawing reviews. The remaining 30% involves mentoring junior team members, coordinating workloads, and maintaining engineering quality and delivery schedules.

Why join us?
  • Work on Specialized Industrial Systems: Support burner management systems, fired heaters, process furnaces, and critical combustion safety applications.
  • Stay Hands-On: Spend the majority of your time on electrical design, panel layouts, schematics, and technical reviews rather than moving into a purely managerial role.
  • Lead a Technical Team: Mentor designers and drafters, allocate work, and help establish consistent engineering standards.
  • Own Design Quality: Play a direct role in ensuring electrical packages are accurate, code-compliant, and ready for fabrication.
  • Make an Immediate Engineering Impact: Work closely with project management and manufacturing to keep customized industrial projects moving efficiently.
Job Details
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing industrial electrical control panels, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Experience with burner management systems (BMS), combustion controls, safety interlocks, or industrial process control systems.
  • Practical understanding of applicable industrial standards, including NFPA 85, NFPA 86, and UL 508A.
  • Familiarity with NEC hazardous-location requirements, including Class I, Division 1 and Division 2 applications and associated protection methods.
  • Experience with industrial safety systems, ideally Schneider Electric Triconex safety instrumented systems (SIS), and Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk HMI/SCADA.
  • Ability to review electrical drawings, identify design issues before fabrication, and coordinate engineering deliverables with project managers and manufacturing teams.
