Job summary

Bunzl Richmond, VA is seeking a Lead Driver/Driver Trainer to assist the Transportation Manager with training and coaching drivers, while also transporting products safely in compliance with DOT regulations. The role focuses on onboarding new hires and retraining current drivers to ensure on-time deliveries and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include delivering training programs, leading meetings, coordinating initiatives, and covering routes during vacations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• CDL Class A license with Doubles/Triples endorsements preferred.
• Minimum 3 years experience in commercial transportation or graduate from an accredited truck driving school.
• Minimum of 1 year in the training field. Driver trainings preferred.
• Hazmat endorsement or able to obtain within 60 days of employment.
• Ability to operate a tractor-trailer in a safe and efficient manner.
• Knowledge of State and Federal DOT regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret route manifests and invoices.
• Willingness to work varying routes and overtime as assigned by Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Train the new hires on delivery protocols, safety, compliance, and customer service.
• Retrain the current drivers in the areas assigned by management.
• Provide support to the leadership team with rolling new initiatives and promoting Bunzl’s values.
• Operates tractor-trailer combination in a safe and professional manner at all times.
• Actively participates in and partially leads team meetings and events.
• Assists in coordinating, planning, and implementing new training programs and initiatives.
• Delivers products to customers on time, while providing complete customer service.
• Transfers materials and items from trailer to dock area or other designated area by hand, hand truck, or pallet jack.
• Assists with administrative tasks as needed.
• Provide route coverage in vacation or driver absence scenarios.
• Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, and laws.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.
