Description

Leidos is seeking an experienced Distribution Engineering leader for electric utility design. This position offers a unique career opportunity to grow a team and shape business relationships with Leidos' utility customer in the area. You'll play a pivotal role in building a program and shaping the future of our distribution engineering business.

This role is contingent upon contract wins with Leidos customers and is not immediately available. Expected availability is in 2-3 months from the posting date, depending on contract outcomes.

The position is based in Colorado but is largely remote for now. Some regional travel (~20-25%) is expected, so candidates should be located in or near Colorado. Future support for a local office team may be required.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Oversee design and construction packages for electrical distribution systems
  • Interact with utility clients regularly, including on-site meetings and travel
  • Assist in business development and proposal submissions
  • Review work and assess scope requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, conductor sags, and voltage drop
  • Support construction and conduct post-construction reviews
  • Analyze outages and develop mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate utility conflicts, develop large design packages, and manage permits and easements
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure resource utilization and quality standards
  • Participate in hiring and provide technical guidance to your team

Background Requirements:

  • 5+ years in electric distribution design engineering, either in consulting or utility work
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 1+ year leadership experience
  • Experience managing distribution projects from start to finish
  • Proficiency with the NESC
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • QA/QC experience
  • Cost estimation, BOM development, and CIAC calculation experience
  • Strong customer interaction history
  • Experience with design tools like Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience with Xcel Energy is highly preferred
