Description

Leidos is seeking an experienced Distribution Engineering leader for electric utility design. This position offers a unique career opportunity to help grow a team and shape business relationships with Leidos' utility customer in the area. You'll be instrumental in building a program and shaping the future of our distribution engineering business.

This role is contingent upon a pending contract win with Leidos' customers and may be filled 2-3 months after the job posting date. It is not immediately available but will be once a future contract is secured.

The position is based in Colorado but largely remote for now. Some regional travel (~20-25%) is expected, so candidates should be located in or near Colorado to best serve our utility customer. Future support to a local office may be required.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Oversee design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Interact with utility clients regularly, including meetings and local travel
  • Participate in business development, including proposal submissions
  • Review work and assess scope requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations (e.g., structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop)
  • Support construction and conduct post-construction reviews
  • Analyze outages and develop mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate utilities and develop large design packages in urban environments
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure quality and resource utilization
  • Assist in hiring and provide technical guidance to your team in the future

Background requirements:

  • 5+ years of electric distribution design engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant experience in lieu
  • 1+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience managing distribution projects from kickoff to design approval
  • Proficiency with the NESC
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel as needed

Preferred qualifications:

  • QAQC experience
  • Cost estimation and BOM development experience
  • Strong customer interaction history
  • Experience with design tools like Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience with Xcel Energy is highly preferred
