Description

Leidos is seeking an experienced Distribution Engineering leader for electric utility design. This position offers a unique career opportunity to play a pivotal role in growing a team and shaping business relationships with Leidos' utility customer in the area. In this role, you'll contribute to building a program and shaping the future of our distribution engineering business.

This role is contingent upon a pending contract win with Leidos customers, and is expected to be filled within 2-3 months of the job posting date. It is not immediately available but will become available pending contract success.

The position is based out of Colorado, primarily remote, with some regional travel (~20-25%). Candidates should be located in or near Colorado to best serve our utility customer. Future support may involve a local office team.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Oversee design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Interact directly with our utility client, including meetings and local travel
  • Participate in business development, including proposals
  • Review work and assess scope requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations, such as structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker
  • Support construction and conduct post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate utilities and design requirements for complex projects
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure resource utilization and quality standards
  • Potentially participate in hiring and provide technical support and guidance to your team

Background Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant electric distribution design engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant experience
  • 1+ year of leadership experience
  • Experience with distribution project execution from kickoff to design approval
  • Proficiency with the NESC
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to utilize personal vehicle for travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • QAQC experience
  • Cost estimation, BOM development, CIAC calculation experience
  • Successful customer interaction history
  • Experience with design tools like Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience with Xcel Energy is strongly preferred
