Leidos is seeking an experienced Distribution Engineering leader for electric utility design. This position offers a unique career opportunity to help grow a team and shape business relationships with Leidos' utility customer in the area. You'll play a part in building a program and shaping the future of our distribution engineering business.

This role is contingent upon a pending contract win with Leidos' customers. The position is expected to be filled within 2-3 months from the job posting date. It is not immediately available but will be once Leidos secures a future contract.

The role is based out of Colorado, largely remote for now, with some regional travel (~20-25%). Candidates should be located in or near Colorado to best serve our utility customer. Future support to a local office may be involved.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Oversee design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Interact with utility clients regularly, including meetings at customer facilities and local travel
  • Participate in business development, including proposal building and submission
  • Review client work and assess scope requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker
  • Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews
  • Conduct outage root cause analysis and mitigation
  • Coordinate utility conflicts and develop large design packages for complex projects
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure resource utilization and quality standards
  • Potentially participate in hiring and provide technical support and guidance to your team

Background Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant electric distribution design engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 1+ year in a leadership role
  • Experience with distribution project execution, customer interaction, and process documentation
  • Proficiency with the NESC
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • QAQC experience
  • Experience estimating costs, developing BOM, calculating CIAC
  • Successful customer interaction history
  • Experience with design tools like Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience with Xcel Energy is highly preferred
