Job summary

Advancing Opportunities, Inc. in Marlboro, NJ, is seeking a Lead Direct Support Professional to support adults with developmental disabilities at the Newton Group Home.

As a Lead DSP, you will mentor DSP staff, coordinate with Group Home Managers to ensure quality care, and maintain program standards while promoting independence and personal choice for residents. Schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Direct Support Professional experience (3+ years) with individuals who have behavioral support needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, guardians, employees, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to complete orientation and pre-service training.
  • Ability to pass state/federal background checks, pre-employment drug screen, and medical/PPD as required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Group Home Managers to ensure services meet standards.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Direct Support Professional staff.
  • Communicate professionally with guardians and healthcare providers.
  • Provide direct care and support to residents per individualized plans.
  • Assist residents with daily living skills and routines.
  • Support health, wellness, and independent living goals.
  • Promote independence, dignity, autonomy, and personal choice.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and comply with policies.

What You’ll Do

As a Lead Direct Support Professional, you will:

  • Collaborate with Group Home Managers to ensure services and daily operations meet program and agency standards
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Direct Support Professional staff
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with guardians, healthcare providers, doctors, and community agencies
  • Provide direct care and support to residents in accordance with their individualized needs and goals
  • Assist residents with daily living skills, including cooking, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and household routines
  • Support health and wellness needs, including personal and medical care as authorized and trained
  • Encourage healthy living practices and participation in wellness activities
  • Support community participation through shopping, recreation, appointments, and outings
  • Promote social and emotional development, including communication, coping skills, friendships, and relationship building
  • Assist residents with budgeting, purchasing, and money-management skills
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, program requirements, and applicable care standards
  • Promote independence, dignity, inclusion, autonomy, and personal choice in all services
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive residential environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, guardians, employees, healthcare providers, and community partners
  • Ability to complete all required orientation and pre-service training
  • Ability to successfully complete state and federal criminal background checks
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical and PPD screening
Preferred
  • At least one year of lead or supervisory experience
Schedule
  • Full-Time
  • Tuesday through Saturday
  • 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Saturday hours are paid at the weekend rate of $20.16/hour
  • Weekday hours are paid at the regular rate of $19.16/hour
