Job summary

First Student is hiring a Lead Diesel Technician in Clinton, MO to lead our shop and keep buses running safely and reliably. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, hands-on repairs, and staff development, with a Monday–Friday day shift and year-round work.

The position offers competitive pay starting at $30 per hour and opportunities to increase with ASE certifications and testing, plus company-paid CDL training and benefits. Excellent career advancement across 540+ locations is possible.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of diesel or automotive maintenance & repair experience or technical school education.
• Previous lead technician, supervisor, or management experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license; willing to obtain CDL with company training.
• Strong computer skills for diagnostics and maintenance.
• Possess a mechanic's tool set; ASE certifications preferred.
• Note: position is safety-sensitive and DOT drug testing applies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; perform road tests when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and HVAC systems for preventive and repair work.
• Supervise shop technicians, conduct daily huddles, training, and performance evaluations.
• Manage inventory, approve expenses within scope, schedule fleet maintenance, and ensure safety compliance.
• Collaborate with management on maintenance status, budgets, and special projects.
