Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the priority and follow safe work practices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs, including offsite calls.
  • Complete daily PM checklists for units operated.
  • Record and communicate issues promptly; maintain PM scheduling paperwork.
  • Conduct Safety Checks and Annual Vehicle Inspections per laws.
  • Ensure equipment is parked per DOT requirements and SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean work environment; perform other assignments as directed.

Clean Harbors Dolton, IL is looking for a Lead Diesel Mechanic to join their safety-conscious team. The Lead Diesel Mechanics are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shop, supervising all maintenance work, ensuring the company fleet is within DOT compliance, and maintaining all service and parts records.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, conduct inspections, troubleshoot, diagnose failures and deficiencies, and perform necessary corrections, including offsite road repairs/service calls.
  • Complete daily checklist as required for proper operation of the unit being operated.
  • Ensure the unit has daily maintenance duties performed and communicate any problems or issues immediately upon discovery.
  • Complete and submit all associated paperwork for tracking PM schedules.
  • Conduct Safety Checks and Annual Vehicle Inspections in accordance with provincial and federal laws.
  • Ensure equipment is properly parked in compliance with facility permit and DOT requirements.
  • Ensure work meets all applicable Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by management.
  • Understand Clean Compliance Standard.
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of diesel engine experience.
  • 1+ years DOT inspection experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in electrical, computer, ECMs, fuel, air systems, ABS, hydraulic systems, engines, and related components.
  • Complete proficiency in diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment such as forklifts, roll-off trucks, forklifts, pickup trucks, box trucks, tractors, and tankers.
  • Proficiency in tooling and equipment diagnostic, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to pass a background, drug, and physical test upon hire.
