Job summary

Clean Harbors in Portland, ME is seeking a Lead Diesel Mechanic to oversee day-to-day shop operations and supervise maintenance work on the fleet. You will ensure DOT compliance and maintain service and parts records.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on diagnostics, and leadership to drive reliability and performance across the fleet.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of diesel engine experience.
  • 1+ years DOT inspection experience required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Must be versed in electrical, computer, ECMs, fuel, air systems, ABS, hydraulic systems, engines, etc.
  • Proficient in diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of heavy duty equipment (forklifts, trucks, tractors, tankers).
  • Ability to pass a background, drug, and physical test on hire.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring Health and Safety is the top priority by following all safe work practices and policies.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and necessary repairs; may involve offsite road repairs.
  • Completes daily unit checklists and communicates issues promptly.
  • Ensures daily maintenance tasks are done and reports problems immediately.
  • Completes and submits paperwork for PM schedules and records.
  • Conducts Safety Checks and Annual Vehicle Inspections per laws.
  • Ensures equipment is parked and complies with DOT requirements.
  • Ensures work meets Health and Safety SOPs.
  • Maintains a clean work environment.
  • Performs other assignments as directed by management.
  • Understands Clean Compliance Standard.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
  • Performs preventative maintenance, conducts inspections, troubleshoots, diagnoses failures & deficiencies & performs necessary corrections. This includes conducting offsite road repairs/service calls.
  • Completes daily checklist as required for proper operation of the unit being operated.
  • Assures unit has daily maintenance duties performed and communicates any problems or issues with the unit immediately upon discovery
  • Completes and submits all associated paperwork as required for tracking PM schedules.
  • Conducts Safety Checks & Annual Vehicle Inspections in accordance with provincial & federal laws.
  • Assures that Equipment is properly parked in compliance with facility permit and DOT requirements.
  • Ensures that work meets all applicable Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Performs other assignments as assigned by management.
  • Understands Clean Compliance Standard.
Qualifications

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  • Demonstrates complete proficiency in tooling and equipment diagnostic, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to pass a background, drug, and physical test upon hire.
